Primitive Bouldering Sardinia - Gallura (Sardinia)

With the last BrazzChristmas we entered the BrazzFamily came into contact with a group of climbers who call themselves "Primitive Bouldering". They are atypical "locals", but serious, determined, respectful of the environment in which they move, dedicated to the conscious development of new areas and available towards a healthy spirit of sharing. Without them our stay in Sardinia would have been much more difficult, less incisive and, perhaps, less in harmony with the characteristics of the territory. For this reason we decided to inaugurate this column where it will be possible to meet various groups of area developers and locals, true engines of outdoor bouldering.

Primitive Boulder Sardinia

Primitive bouldering is a project created by young girls and boys, local and not, nature lovers and with a common goal: to develop the areas of the Gallura area. Started as a group of friends with a common passion, today we have started to promote local realities thanks to social media, but also to offer services such as on-site info and pad rental. After dedicating our energies to cleaning, climbing and discovering new sectors, to constantly map new lines, we decided to create paper guides of the bouldering areas that we have discovered and that we continue to discover, in order to offer an effective reference to all the people who want to discover bouldering in Gallura.

The landscape heritage of Sardinia

Sardinia is a magical place, rich in landscape diversity, capable of making those who visit it with a spirit of adventure fall in love. It is an island that envelops you with its colors and scents, with its welcoming spirit and charm but always remains wild and authentic: full of immense forests and rocky coasts, where it takes just an instant to get lost. From north to south the landscapes change, offering enormous and varied potential for many types of sports.

Nowadays the rocky expanses present are a true paradise for bouldering lovers: our aim is therefore to enhance this naturalistic heritage and to make known another side of life in Sardinia.

With Primitive Bouldering we want to promote responsible and sustainable outdoor sports, which are a destination not only during the summer, but especially during the periods from autumn to spring.

Gallura Granite: A Paradise for Bouldering Lovers

Anyone who lives or has visited Gallura will have been amazed at the abundance of granite present and the shapes it can take. Since ancient times, granite has been a great ally for man, used both as a shelter for its "basins" and for the construction of the classic Gallura Stazzi. The rock is the result of a geological process that began 300 million years ago, during the Hercynian orogeny, when the base on which all of Sardinia rests was formed and emerged.

It is a complex of intrusive rocks, of magmatic origin, composed internally of different minerals. The forms it can assume are linked to the hydrolysis process: the silicates, through the action of rainwater and sometimes sea water, decompose and are transported by the wind. With the formation of cracks, water and humidity can infiltrate and act with their corrosive power, disintegrating the rock and making it assume various particular shapes. The humidity of the soil, rising in the rock, alters its minerals, causing what is the disintegration of the nucleus and creating small alveoli. With the passage of time, these small holes will become the classic tafoni - or basins, caves present in large quantities and used since the Neolithic as shelter, haystacks and even tombs.

Nowadays, the expanses of granite rocks (blocks) are a paradise for bouldering lovers: our goal is therefore to enhance this naturalistic heritage and to make known another side of life in Sardinia.
