A las puertas de la nueva temporada de búlder, le pedimos a Siara Fabbri que nos contara un poco sobre su Rocklands 2024, a través de imágenes y una entrevista.
"This was my first trip to Rocklands, so I was excited to see the different sectors and try a lot of boulders rather than focusing on one really hard line. I still did try some boulders that weren’t necessarily feasible in the trip due to lack of time or skin, because I quickly realized how special the place was and that we would be back. One of the first days of the trip we made our way to The Danger Zone sector and I could try Law and Order, an 8A+ that has many different betas, from a large dyno which skips a line of horizontal crimps, to laybacking the crimps or using a heel. At the end of that first session I discovered that the heel beta works best for me, and next session I could dial it in and find myself at the top. From this first taste I was already so impressed with the rock quality and style of climbing that is joyful – nice edges, solid rock, and smooth features (but some crimps can be very sharp!), with varied orange and brown colors. I think I was already telling Simo ‘lets move here!’. Another boulder shown in my film of this trip is The Hatchling, an 8A that sadly is now broken after the boulder fell. I was fortunate to be there a few days before it was destroyed, and so glad I did because it was a stunner. I ended up on the Arch because it seemed a bit less sharp then some of the other lines, and despite it being a lowball the movement and setting is spectacular. When you are smaller the beta varies and adds another crux, and I was proud of myself to find my own unique sequence that makes it work. After focused tension, heels, and crimping in the bottom part, you find yourself in a Font-like mantle battle on these beautiful slopers. You have to fight in this part, but once my finger finds one key pebble, I feel secure to enough to make it to a good hold and not drop. I managed to send this boulder on our last day, and Simo flashed it right after me (I think our hardest boulder send together on the day), so that was really special. Bonus of The Arch, you can do a bath in a pretty stream with smooth rock pools and slides (see the end of my video!). Growing up in a remote and wild place, from a young age I have been very passionate about wildlife and have always dreamt of traveling to Africa to see the incredible nature and animals. Rocklands features many animals that as a kid I only saw in wildlife documentaries, such as leopards, caracals, baboons, cobras, and African wildcats. Although it would be unlikely to see an animal such as a leopard, being in the same area as these cats and amazing creatures was so exciting for me! I could see some baboons, tortoises, and lizards and Simo saw a couple caracals at night. It made the long hikes and days out climbing all the more fun. Combining that with the pretty African trees and breathtaking sunsets, this place captured my heart." (Siara Fabbri)
